Demonstration Performance Engine v0.4

In september 2009 we gave a presentation of our brand new Performance Engine v0.4 in Huis aan de Werf at the end of our Test LAB 01. The following video shows the main features of the system in seven parts. Below the video you can read a brief summary of each video.

PELAB01_Demo Part 1-7: Introduction research context (3:59 min)
As the title suggest in this four minute introduction the context of the research is briefly explained. For a more in-depth information please read the Theory section of this website.

PELAB01_Demo Part 2-7: The Statemachine and WII-mote (7:37 min)
In this video the basic functionality and principles of the Statemachine, the heart of the Performance Engine, is explained and demonstrated. With the help of the WII-mote module a sound is triggered with a simple buttonpress and other features are used to control volume.

PELAB01_Demo Part 3-7: The 2D Engine, Motion tracking and Region patch (9:41 min)
Motion tracking is a great way to trigger and control media onstage. In this video the 2D Engine is demonstrated in conjunction with Color-tracking techniques. At the end of the video the Region patch is shown in conjunction with a different motion tracking technique enabling the performer to move more freely and trigger media and events at certain regions on the floor.

PELAB01_Demo Part 4-7: The Audio Engine and Surround sound (2:51 min)
The Audio Engine is capable of producing Surround sound by connecting the Motion tracking data with the physical speaker locations. In this video a short four speaker calibration is shown.

PELAB01_Demo Part 5-7: The 3D Engine and examples (7:56 min)
The Performance Engine v0.4 makes use of the 3D Engine software called Unity 3D. With serious modifications on the free Miyu MaxMSP patch the 3D engine is connected to the Statemachine. In this video a few simple connections with the embedded Reactivision marker motion tracking system is demonstrated and additional examples and projects.

PELAB01_Demo Part 6-7: Mixed Reality project & The Text Engine (7;28 min)
In this part of the presentation an interesting example of projecting 3D Computer graphics on physical 3D geometry is demonstrated. This example will be one of the starting points for the mixed Reality project. At the end of this video the Text Engine is briefly shown.
